Welcome! Thanks for popping into the centre
Welcome to the YCC website – this is your portal to an array of information about our wonderful town and the community we serve.
YCC is dedicated to empowering our community to be welcoming, inclusive and sustainable.
2020 was a testing year for us all. Here at YCC we worked with our community leaders to improve life for all during unprecedented times.
One of our first initiatives was to set up the Yackandandah Community Initiative, which brought service groups, Indigo Shire, Emergency Services the business community together to discuss how we could collaborate for the benefit of the whole community.
We met regularly during the first stages of the Victorian lockdown and will continue to have conversations as a group to coordinate community activities. There were several initiatives which came about from our discussions.
The first was a Business Listing which provided contact details for all the businesses which were able to trade or offer services during the lockdown. There were 1200 copies of the listing printed and distributed to post boxes in the region. The Business listing is also available via the Shop Local tab at the top of this website. This is provided free of charge to encourage locals to shop local.
The group also enabled the purchase of bulk hand sanitiser. This was dispensed into small bottles which were made available for free, or for a small donation, at several locations in Yack. We would like to thank the Yackandandah Lions Club for their contribution, support and the work they put into this project.
Another initiative was the development of Yack Chat – our live-to-air radio talkback show which is broadcast via Indigo FM. The station has its studio in the YCC building and has provided us a wonderful opportunity to get information out and create a communication stream for members of our community who may have otherwise been isolated. With the aid of some technology provided by Reconnect Communications, anyone in our community is able to call the presenter during the show and have a conversation live-to-air.
The show will continue into the future, it runs five days a week from 10am till 11am. A number of presenters personalise the shows with discussions about all sorts of topics. Many of those conversations are available as podcasts through the Yack Chat link above.
We are all hoping for a better year in 2021. YCC is open again, subject to Government regulations, and our meeting room is again available for hire.
And it’s fantastic to have our Op Shop open again, it was renovated during the lockdown, it’s looking fabulous and offering some terrific bargains. We are able to take donations again. Thanks must go to our volunteers for their patience and their dedication to helping us keep the Op Shop providing a very worthwhile service to our community.
Kind regards.
David Thorpe. YCC manager.
